Job Title: Student Officer Classification: Non-Exempt Reports to: Director of Campus Safety and Emergency Preparedness Pay Rate: $16.37/hour
Position purpose The Student Security Officer assists the North Central University Campus Safety and Security Department in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and secure campus environment. Student Officers provide routine patrols, customer service, access control, safety monitoring, and basic incident reporting while serving as positive representatives of the University. Student Officers work under the direction of full-time Campus Safety staff and support departmental operations through proactive observation, professionalism, and service.
Student Officers are cross-trained as both Patrol Officers and Dispatch Officers, and may work one of both of these roles during a semester.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to Patrol Officer
Proactively ensure campus safety and security while patrolling
Provide customer service
Report student concerns to the Student Development and Residence Life departments as outlined in the Departmental Communication Matrix
Enforce trespassing policies and laws
Enforce parking policies in campus lots
Detain and/or remove individuals involved in criminal activity on campus property in cooperation with full-time staff and law enforcement.
Dispatch Officer
Receive and make phone calls on behalf of the university
Provide customer service
Utilize virtual patrolling methods via the department camera systems
Dispatch officers to incidents and tasks
Deploy the Emergency Notification System (ENS) as needed
Maintain high level of access control for exterior doors via door locks and card access system
Provide safety escorts within patrol boundaries
Provide escorts (walking or vehicle) to NCU constituents and guests
Provide emergency service response and management
Respond to large scale emergency service requests
Respond to individual emergency services requests
Provide on scene management of emergencies until relieved by supervisor(s) or other local authorities
Provide accurate and factual documentation via Case Reports and/or Event Logging during and after responding to an emergency situation
Communicate with supervisor(s) and/or other local authorities
Maintain current and up-to-date officer training and standards
Attend and participate in established weekly Security department meetings
Attend and participate in certification training sessions
Maintain current emergency response training and/or certifications provided by the department
Maintain current defensive tactics and other defensive tool certifications provided by the department
Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality while performing assigned duties.
Required qualifications/skills
Must be a currently enrolled North Central University student in good academic and disciplinary standing.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Legally authorized to work in the United States.
Ability to successfully complete Campus Safety orientation and departmental training.
Ability to complete a BCA criminal background check and a DMV background check
Previous customer service, leadership, volunteer, or security experience is preferred but not required.

Ability to maintain focus during long periods of monitoring cameras or patrolling · Positive attitude, dependability, and strong work ethic.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT Student Officers utilize department radios, computers, security camera systems, electronic access control systems, mobile devices, defensive tools, medical equipment, and university vehicles when authorized.
